The fight
A single health bar. He fights with his trident first, already charged with wind. At around two thirds or half of his health, he raises the Samadhi Wind: sandstorm, reduced visibility, sand copies and new moves. In the last quarter, a moving tornado joins in.
One set: no shrine or checkpoint, but the storm changes how you play; plan the Wind Tamer for it, and keep it charged for the tornado.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- No status effect reported: wind and sand damage.
Attacks to watch
- Grab: he stops, grunts, crouches, then runs and kicks; if it lands, he pins you to the ground with his trident. Dodge the kick sideways, the rest won't follow.
- A thrust planted in the ground: a line of sand spears erupts in front of him, then a stomp; flee to the sides, not backward.
- A roar, then a mass crashing down on you: dodge at the last moment, then once more, as a follow-up comes through the dust.
- Moving tornado, in the last quarter: it blends into the scenery and throws you in the air; run from it rather than trying to dodge it.
- Ranged shockwaves that can't be deflected: don't stay far away, dodge sideways.
What works
- Wind Tamer, to activate when he raises the storm: it cancels it, takes away many of his moves and stuns him. Wind Tamer
- Rock Solid: deflecting his stomps knocks him down; the Copper Pill makes the next one free right after a sip. Rock Solid, Copper Pill
- Immobilize and A Pluck of Many, but not during his big retreating leaps. Immobilize, A Pluck of Many
- Before going in: Evil Repelling Medicament, Tiger Subduing Pellets and Longevity Decoction. Evil Repelling Medicament, Tiger Subduing Pellets, Longevity Decoction
Strategy
- Stay glued to him and dodge to the sides or behind him: at range, he chains shockwaves.
- During the storm, stay in the middle: invisible walls block you, not him.
- Save your transformation for the storm or the end of the fight.
- At the Cellar shrine, Xu Dog waits for you if you beat Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw and brought him the formula: trade him your Mind Cores for celestial medicines that raise your Defense.
Access
Yellow Wind Formation, in the heart of the sand tornado. You need both keys, the Sternness of Stone and the Keenness of Tiger: the statue in the Tiger Vanguard's arena opens the way to the Cellar, the closest shrine, then go down the sand slope and into the tornado on the left; the door at Windseal Gate leads there too. Mandatory: end of Chapter 2.

In NG+
In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the Vanguards' keys, the Loong Scales and quest items must be taken again.
