The fight
A single health bar, in two stages: once he has taken a good amount of damage, he moves to a more relentless second phase. His roar brings rocks down.
One set: no shrine between the two phases, and no change of element.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- No status effect: fists and rocks; his roar stuns, without being a bane.
Attacks to watch
- Grab: he leaps and charges his left arm; once lifted, there's no escape, and the damage can be lethal. Dodge before.
- Roar: rocks fall and he stuns you up close; move away.
- A rock torn out, then slammed down with a leap: wide impact area.
- Double smash: after the second hit, his fist stays stuck in the ground, punish.
What works
- Rock Solid against his combos that end with a heavy blow: well timed, it pushes him back and stuns him. Rock Solid
- Immobilize after his leaps, or to make yourself a healing window. Immobilize
- Opener: transformation and heavy attacks until it runs out, then Immobilize, A Pluck of Many and light combos. A Pluck of Many
- Evil Repelling Medicament and Tiger Subduing Pellets before the fight. Evil Repelling Medicament, Tiger Subduing Pellets
Strategy
- Heal as soon as you drop below half health: below that, he can kill you in one or two hits.
- If you die, you come back right outside the arena, at the Bottom of the Well shrine, even if you hadn't activated it.
- After the fight, the chest at the back of the arena holds the Plaguebane Gourd.
Access
Bottom of the Well, Sandgate Village: beat the Tiger's Acolyte for the Old Rattle-Drum, then play it at three spots: near the rope bridge (from Windseal Gate, or from the Valley of Despair through the big gate opened with both Vanguards' keys), at Windrest Hamlet, and in the village corner at Village Entrance, near the well. A boy then invites you to jump into the well. Optional and secret.
What it gives
- to obtainMad Tiger
- to obtainBlood of the Iron Bull
- to obtainStone Spirit
- to obtainYaoguai Core
Will: 1,029
The arena chest holds the Plaguebane Gourd: 5 sips, healing halved, Attack raised for a moment after each sip.

In NG+
In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the Vanguards' keys, the Loong Scales and quest items must be taken again.
