Recommended gear
With what you can have when you first come across it.
Editor's pick Immobilize is your best tool against it: with the 4 Bronze pieces, crashing an immobilization deals extra damage and greatly shortens its cooldown, and the Stranded Loong's Whisker extends it after a sip. Umbral Abyss tanks its big discharge; Dark Thunder, if you have it, makes you immune to lightning damage while transformed.

Yaksha Armor Set: 12 Cold Iron Leaves, 6 Fine Gold Thread and 29,100 Will for the 4 pieces. In Chapter 6, the Supreme Celestial Inspector gives 2 Fine Gold Thread, the shrines sell 2, and several other optional bosses drop 1 each: the Jiao-Loong of Waves, each of the 4 Poison Chiefs and Lang-Baw-Baw; the Son of Stones will give you 1 more. As an alternative to the Bronze set, its 4 pieces greatly raise the damage you deal, and the damage you take.
For the weapon, the Bishui Beast Staff or the Staff of Blazing Karma if you have their materials: 4 Gold Tree Cores each; the Supreme Celestial Inspector gave you 2 and the shrines sell 1. Otherwise, keep the Chitin Staff.
The fight
A single fight, a single health bar. Slow and predictable, it is very large and mostly strikes with lightning: the glow around it is a charge, released as projectiles or waves of lightning around it, stronger and stronger when it raises its arms, up to an explosion. After this discharge, it collapses and stays down for a long time: that's your big opening.
One set: a single fight, with no shrine or pause.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine (soaks also with the Shen Monkey), never during a fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- No status named: its lightning, projectiles and discharges are lightning attacks. Shock-Quelling Powder, recommended against it, clears Shock and briefly raises your Shock Resistance.
Attacks to watch
- Electric discharge: the lightning grows stronger while it raises its arms, then explodes. Get as far away as you can, or tank it under Umbral Abyss; during the charge, hit it from the side, then dodge when its arms go up.
- One-handed swipe: it leans to the side and sweeps you with its arm, then falls and keeps rolling toward you. Back off as soon as it leans.
- Ground slam with both fists: lightning strikes beneath it. Get behind it to hit safely.
- Its glow telegraphs its electric attacks, including projectiles thrown from range: watch for it to dodge in time.
What works
- Immobilize: when it gets back up after its roll, freeze it to strike; at the start, Immobilize and a string of quick attacks make it stand up. Immobilize
- After its big discharge, it stays down for a long time: rush in and give it everything, A Pluck of Many included. A Pluck of Many
- Plantain Fan: when it gets up, the gust staggers it and cuts off its lightning attacks; follow up at once. Plantain Fan
- Keep Shock-Quelling Powder on a quick slot against its lightning damage. Shock-Quelling Powder
Strategy
- Land behind it: it doesn't stand up right away, enough for a few free hits; back off if it leans to the side to push you away with its arm.
- It only attacks if you provoke it: you can fly past it on your way to the Giant Shigandang. Giant Shigandang
- An easy fight: it is slow, predictable, and spends a lot of time on the ground after its discharges.
Access
Foothills, on the edge of a cliff at the far end of the area, beyond the big lake: from the cliff's edge where you end up after the Supreme Celestial Inspector, look slightly left, toward a blue-green glow. Fly closer on the Somersault Cloud: it sits on the edge clapping, and won't attack unless you provoke it. Land behind it and strike: it tries to drive you off, strike again and it stands up to fight. Optional, on the way to the Giant Shigandang and the Water Curtain Cave.
What it gives
- to obtainFine Gold Thread
- to obtainMind Core
- to obtainCold Iron Leaves
It yields about 2,050 Will: recorded values are 2,043 and 2,051.
