Recommended gear

With what you can get before this boss, in your first cycle.

Editor's pick Immobilize, A Pluck of Many and Cloud Step for the hand, which moves around a lot. No shrine between the hand and the insect: set up your Poison Resistance from the start, with the Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook, the Bronze Buddha Pendant and the Gall Gem, or Azure Dust, immune to the Four Banes. The Chitin Staff needs 4 Refined Iron Sand: without them, keep the Kang-Jin Staff.

The fight

A single fight, with no pause, in a narrow corridor. First the hand at the end of an enormous arm; around half its health, it pulls back, and its owner, an insect, drops down screaming and finishes the fight spitting poison. Once beaten, it tries to flee, is shot down, and its arm becomes your bridge onward.

One set: no pause between the hand and the insect, and the insect is the one that poisons: prepare your anti-poison gear from the start.

Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine (soaks also with the Shen Monkey), never during a fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.

What it inflicts

  • Poison, in its insect form: a river of poisonous bile that hurts continuously in the corridor, poison spat in your direction and a cloud of poisonous bugs in front of its head. In its hand form, its attacks are slaps, falling rocks, punches and a magic dart.

Attacks to watch

  • A slap on the wall: 3 to 4 large rocks fall, the last one often delayed.
  • Fist raised: a slam, then a fast scrape along the corridor; afterward the hand stays still, chase it to strike.
  • A fist glowing gold without rising: a wide arcing punch to pin you against the wall.
  • Insect: a continuous river of poison down the corridor. Slip under it before it spews, or perch in Pillar Stance, then drop down and run when it slams its hand into the river.
  • Insect: it swings backward, then slides at you talons first; don't deflect, dodge.

What works

  • Immobilize, A Pluck of Many and Cloud Step during the hand phase, which moves around a lot: be patient with your hits. Immobilize, A Pluck of Many, Cloud Step
  • Insect form: stay behind it, chain combos to knock it down, then A Pluck of Many or Immobilize for more free hits. A Pluck of Many, Immobilize
  • Antimiasma Powder: it removes the Poison the insect inflicts and briefly raises your Poison Resistance. Antimiasma Powder

Strategy

  • The corridor is narrow: little room to dodge, but the boss is easy to hit.
  • The hand's magic dart can't be deflected with Staff Spin: dodge it.
  • Insect: its headbutt can be deflected and leaves it vulnerable; back off during the bug cloud.
  • Pillar and Thrust Stances to reach its head while it clings to the walls.

Access

Webbed Hollow, Cliff of Oblivion shrine, reached by following the path past the Centipede Guai: right after the shrine, take the crevice on the left. In the narrow corridor, a hand holds a mirror: interact with the mirror. Mandatory: it blocks the way to the Lower Hollow.

What it gives

Will: 1,942

The Past-Echo is used automatically during the fight against Zhu Bajie. Bodhisattva's Right Hand, together with the Left Hand dropped by Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw, lets you get a unique gourd from the Shen Monkey.
