Recommended gear
With what you can get before this boss, in your first cycle.
Editor's pick Rock Solid rather than Cloud Step: deflecting its ball topples it. Against its Poison: the Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook, the Bronze Buddha Pendant, the Gall Gem and Azure Dust, immune to the Four Banes; the Serpentscale pieces too, as alternatives. The Chitin Staff needs 4 Refined Iron Sand: without them, keep the Kang-Jin Staff.

The fight
A single fight, with no pause. It drops into the pit as soon as you arrive. After losing about half its health, it lets out a long screech: dozens of small centipedes roll at you and explode on contact. At low health, it also slams down curled up from the air.
One set: no pause, and its Poison lasts the whole fight.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine (soaks also with the Shen Monkey), never during a fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- Poison: standing on 2 legs, it staggers around spewing poison beneath itself; it also spits poison from its mouth after shaking its head, leaving pools that linger for a while; its small centipedes explode with poison.
Attacks to watch
- 2 head slams, then a pivot and a slam onto its back with its shell: dodge the 3rd hit, then combo while it gets back up.
- Standing on 2 legs, it staggers around spewing poison beneath itself: back off at once.
- Ball: it curls up and charges very fast, several times, bouncing off the walls. Dodge, or deflect it with Rock Solid to topple it.
- After half its health: a long screech, then a swarm of small centipedes that roll at you and explode on contact.
- At low health: a curled-up aerial slam, then 2 quick claw swipes as it unrolls.
What works
- Rock Solid, in place of Cloud Step: well timed against its ball, it topples it; then follow with a charged heavy attack and Immobilize to keep it down. Rock Solid, Immobilize
- Its health and defense are low: chain spells, vessel and attacks from the start, for example A Pluck of Many, Immobilize, then the Wandering Wight's attack. A Pluck of Many, Wandering Wight
- A curio against Poison, like the Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook, and Antimiasma Powder. Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook, Antimiasma Powder
Strategy
- Small centipedes: run the other way, then swerve so they collide with each other, or stand by a wall so they crash into it. Don't take too long: it then joins them, ramming faster.
- While it's rolling, don't attack or cast your other spells: dodge, or deflect it with a well-timed Rock Solid.
- Dodge forward under its leap to get behind it; when it's on its back, a plunging strike to its belly hurts.
- Pillar Stance to get out of the poison pools, and use the pauses when it grooms itself to strike.
Access
Webbed Hollow, the pit with the skull pile. From the Middle Hollow shrine, follow the path and go down the cliffs into the large area; the Bonevault shrine, on the other route, also leads to the pit. Mandatory: the way to the Cliff of Oblivion shrine goes through its arena.
What it gives
- to obtainCentipede Guai
- to obtainKnot of Voidness
- to obtainGold Tree Core
Will: 1,958
The Centipede Guai spirit is claimed after the fight; equipped, it slightly raises your movement speed, and its skill curls you into a giant ball that rams nearby foes.
