The fight
A single phase. He is a buffed version of the ordinary Monks from the Sea, charged with frost: he hits very hard and coats the ground with Chill zones.
One set: nothing changes during the fight, and Chill is there from start to finish.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- Chill: many of his attacks apply it, often with no warning sign, and his frost zone fills your gauge as long as you stand in it. Once chilled, you can barely move before his next blow.
Attacks to watch
- Frost zone: he props himself up on 2 tentacles, charges, then releases a gust that coats the ground in frost. Move away and wait it out; spot the zone by its low mist.
- Tentacle combos: 3 forward stabs, or spinning horizontal sweeps. Once you know the rhythm, deflect them or Immobilize him mid-swing.
- A big snow boulder throw that deals heavy damage; from afar, he also throws 2 smaller rocks that are easier to avoid.
- Leap at you: he stabs down with his appendages as he lands, then, after a pause, slams the ground for a second blast.
What works
- Fast opener: A Pluck of Many, Immobilize, the Wandering Wight attack, Cloud Step, then your transformation, to take a big chunk of his health quickly. A Pluck of Many, Immobilize, Wandering Wight, Cloud Step
- Heavy attacks: they stun him again and again and deal heavy damage. Another method: charge your Smash Stance while circling the edge of his frost zone, strike once, then back off; he is bad at chasing. Smash Stance
- Body-Warming Powder: it removes Chill and briefly raises your Chill Resistance. Sweet Ice, a soak that boosts your Chill Resistance when you drink, sits in a chest further down, past the monks punching a tree. Body-Warming Powder, Sweet Ice
Strategy
- Always heal back to full health: he hits very hard.
- The frost zone is hard to see on snow: look for the low mist, or lure him onto clear ground.
- He is still there after the story: come back later, better equipped, if the fight is too hard.
Access
New Thunderclap Temple, Temple Entrance shrine: head right through the red gate and climb the sloping path full of Supporter Monks; in the courtyard, leave through the gate on the left. In the next area, he bursts out of a candle-covered altar in the left corner, near monks punching trees. Optional.
