The fight
A single phase, by a frozen pond. Same basics as the previous frogs, with ice on top: frost fields, icy breath, exploding crystals. At low health, his arm swipes charge with ice and he traps you in a ring of crystals.
One set: a single phase, and Chill from start to finish.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- Chill: icy breath, frost fields left by his tongue and arm swipes, exploding ice crystals; in the frost, you freeze quickly and your stamina drains.
Attacks to watch
- Tongue lash: it leaves frost fields and lobs rocks each time it whips back; stay mobile, out of the frost.
- Icy breath: a deep breath, then a blast straight at you; Immobilize interrupts it, Cloud Step gets you out.
- Screech: ice crystals form around the arena, then a second bellow makes them explode. Stay at mid-range, or close in with Pillar Stance and strike after the blast.
- At low health: a supercharged arm combo, lines of ice explosions, a large frost area and a ring of crystals boxing you in; Pillar Stance, or Ring of Fire as a refuge.
What works
- A Pluck of Many right at the start, Immobilize to cut off his ice attacks, then your transformation and spirit. A Pluck of Many, Immobilize
- Body-Warming Powder: a must here, it removes Chill and briefly raises your Chill Resistance. Body-Warming Powder
- Fiery Gourd and Frostsprout Twig: the gourd makes you immune to Chill right after each sip. Fiery Gourd, Frostsprout Twig
- Ring of Fire instead of Immobilize: a refuge from the cold, useful against his crystal trap. Ring of Fire
Strategy
- He has little health and defense: throw everything at him from the start.
- Choose where the fight happens: back out of the frost, which lingers longer than you'd expect, he always ends up coming to you.
Access
Valley of Ecstasy, Forest of Felicity: from the shrine, turn around; a small tunnel in the wall on the right leads to a canyon and its frozen pond, where he waits. Optional.
What it gives
- to obtainTadpole
- to obtainCold Iron Leaves
Will: 902
The Tadpole upgrades the Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang spirit. He is the 3rd of the 6 frogs of "The Clamor of Frogs" achievement, one per chapter.
He also drops a few common materials, which vary from one run to the next.
Updates
Update 1.0.9: fixed the Tadpole sometimes failing to drop; affected players found it in their inventory.
In NG+
In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the chapter's quest items must be taken again.
