Recommended gear
With what you can get before this boss, in your first cycle.
Editor's pick Shock comes back in both his phases: the 3 Loongscale pieces greatly shorten it, and the Thunderstone and the Thunderbolt Horn raise your Shock Resistance; the Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook limits his poison and the Wandering Wight adds Defense. Take the Golden Mask of Fury (2 Fine Gold Thread), which grants a lot of Focus after a spirit attack lands, otherwise See No Evil; as an alternative, the Golden set's Attack bonus right after your spirit or the Needle starts at 2 pieces, but the second Golden piece replaces a Loongscale piece and costs you the bonus against Shock. The Chitin Staff is the safe choice: its upgrade, the Spider Celestial Staff, makes your hits inflict Poison Bane while you are poisoned, but also needs 4 Gold Tree Cores and 8 Refined Iron Sand.

At Xu Dog, put your celestial medicines into Defense and Shock Resistance; you can reassign them for free.
Apart from Azure Dust, immune to the Four Banes while transformed, no piece of the set covers Burn, which is limited to the final phase: keep Body-Cooling Powder on a quick slot, it removes the state and briefly raises your Burn Resistance.
The fight
A single fight, with no shrine or checkpoint. On your first attempt, the spider sisters attack him alongside you until he drives them off. Alone against you, he wields a big lightning-charged sword, electric talismans and poison, and burrows underground to grab you. At around a quarter to a third of his health, he covers the arena with a golden dome of countless eyes: your stamina collapses and his hits hurt more, until the Weaver's Needle breaks the spell. He then carries on without his sword, with his fists, his tail, lightning and flames.
One set: no shrine or checkpoint between his phases, and Shock comes back in both. Keep the Weaver's Needle, your spirit attack and some mana for the final phase.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine (soaks also with the Shen Monkey), never during a fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- Shock: lightning-charged sword, electric talismans and blasts, from start to finish; his talisman barrages shock you quickly.
- Poison: he spits a wide arc of poison, or bursts his tail out of the ground spraying poison all around; if hit, you are poisoned almost at once.
- Burn: in the final phase, he throws fire from his hand and ends some combos with a blast of flames; if hit, you burn, and 5 dodges put out the flames.
Attacks to watch
- Burrow, then an unblockable grab, often right after a successful Rock Solid deflection: the ground cracks as it moves toward you. Run while watching behind you and dodge at the big vertical lightning bolt, as he bursts out.
- Poison spray: he switches his sword to a reverse grip and leans his head back, then spits in a wide arc. Get behind him or to his side, and hit him during the long animation.
- Thrown sword: it spins near you, then his tail bursts out of the ground spraying poison. He burrows again, the electrified sword drops from a corner of the arena and he comes out for 2 strikes: dodge the sword, then get away from the impact point at once.
- Talismans: sword raised and charged with lightning, then a low wave, a diagonal wave and a lightning beam; or sword sheathed, a halo of talismans and a long barrage. Keep your distance and dodge the 3 shots; against the barrage, sprint or deflect it with the staff spin.
- Final phase: a lightning combo ends with a blast of flames that can take more than half your health. Rearing up on his claws, electric orb raised, he also slams down a huge shockwave: run or dodge at the right moment, Pillar Stance won't protect you. Also beware of his somersault, which ends in a quick, long-reach grab.
What works
- Weaver's Needle: use it as soon as the spell takes hold, right after the short cutscene that follows the golden dome; it cancels the spell, knocks him down and opens a big attack window. Weaver's Needle
- Immobilize and heavy attacks stun him; you can only hurt him on his legs and centipede body, which never stop moving. Immobilize
- On your quick slots: Shock-Quelling Powder and Antimiasma Powder, plus Body-Cooling Powder for the flames of the final phase. Shock-Quelling Powder, Antimiasma Powder, Body-Cooling Powder
- Golden Lining after the Needle: immune to Shock, it sees through his big, slow attacks; failing that, Hoarfrost, Umbral Abyss or Azure Dust. Golden Lining, Hoarfrost, Umbral Abyss, Azure Dust
Strategy
- At the start, the spider sisters do most of the work: hit him while he deals with them, without wasting your resources.
- When he clutches his head, he no longer takes damage: use the transition to take your buff medicines and let your cooldowns come back.
- Stay close to him, on his flank: from afar, he chains ranged attacks, and his sword planted in front of him deflects your frontal hits.
- Rock Solid, if you take it instead of Cloud Step, even deflects his poison and point-blank talismans, but he often burrows right afterward.
Access
