Editor's pick The Loongscale set, craftable if you beat Kang-Jin Star first, greatly reduces Shock duration with its 3 pieces, and the Thunderbolt Horn adds Shock Resistance with each sip: this is the recommended preparation for the loongs. Azure Dust, immune to the Four Banes, lets you tank the blast of his electrified blade.

The fight
A sword-wielding loong who mostly stays on the ground: blade combos often ending in a small lightning blast, aerial attacks and a lightning charge. Around two thirds of his health, he electrifies his blade: every hit then carries lightning, with massive blasts. Around one third, he recharges it and adds a 3-hit combo; depending on your damage, the electrification can come back several times.
One set: no shrine or pause, and the Shock stays the same from start to finish.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- Shock: his lightning attacks inflict it, and once his blade is electrified, every hit applies Thunder Bane. While shocked, you take more damage.
Attacks to watch
- A strong but slow jump: dodge when he actually starts the attack, not when he rises. On landing, a lightning area bursts: keep your distance.
- Lightning charge: when he switches his sword to a reverse grip, dodge right away, the animation is short.
- His combos often end in a small lightning blast: dodge through him, then strike.
- Electrified blade: the animation announces a huge blast. Run as soon as it starts, or tank it while transformed; he can also plant his blade in the ground to make it explode.
- Horizontal guard with a charged blade: a massive explosive strike follows, get away.
What works
- Immobilize and Wind Tamer to stun him, then strike. Immobilize, Wind Tamer
- A Pluck of Many, combined with Immobilize. A Pluck of Many
- Cloud Step against his most powerful attacks. Cloud Step
- Shock-Quelling Powder: stock up before the fight, it removes Shock. Shock-Quelling Powder
Strategy
- He can be interrupted: a combo finisher and a charged heavy attack cut some of his strings, so be aggressive.
- Rock Solid parries his jump.
- Too hard for now? Come back later in the story.
Access
Bitter Lake, Turtle Island: from the shrine, go right to the back corner of the island; a small dragon statue, sitting at the edge and covered in snow, is fishing there. Approach it: a cutscene wakes it up. Hidden: he only wakes up if you carry the Loong Scales.
What it gives
- to obtainFine Gold Thread × 2
- to obtainMind Core
- to obtainLoong Pearl
- to obtainMountain-Shaking Claw
- to obtainBreath of Fire
Will: 2,553
After the win, a chest appears next to the small waterfall: it holds the Mountain-Shaking Claw and the Breath of Fire soak.
These are the earliest Fine Gold Threads you can get.
The Golden Loong Staff recipe opens: it is an upgrade of the Loongwreathe Staff, and it also needs the Yellow Loong's Sea-Supporting Tendon, in Chapter 4, 2 Kun Steel and 45,000 Will.
