The fight
He chains lightning orbs, a rain of bolts and flying charges. Around half health, he adds a lightning beam fired from the air, followed by a dash; when nearly beaten, he slumps down and sweeps everything around him with his tails.
One set: no shrine or pause during the fight, and the Shock lasts from start to finish.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- Shock: his lightning attacks inflict it, orbs, bolts and beam. While shocked, you take more damage.
Attacks to watch
- He rises into the air: a volley of lightning orbs flies at you. Each one deals little damage, but they add up: roll away.
- A rain of bolts around him: the impact points show up before the strike, move accordingly.
- Flying charge: he takes off, rushes at you and drops 3 bolts in front of him as he lands.
- Around half health: a lightning beam swept from left to right from the air, then a dash. Stay out of the beam, then dodge sideways.
- Late in the fight, he slumps to the ground and sweeps a wide area with his tails: get away as soon as he collapses.
What works
- A Pluck of Many right at the start, while he stays on the ground, then Immobilize to keep the pressure on. A Pluck of Many, Immobilize
- Wind Tamer to stun him, then strike. Wind Tamer
- Shock-Quelling Powder: it removes Shock and briefly raises your Shock Resistance. Shock-Quelling Powder
- The Wandering Wight's attack, Cloud Step, then your transformation, on top of your spells. Wandering Wight, Cloud Step
Strategy
- If Zhu Bajie is still with you, hit Chen Loong while he targets the boar.
- His attacks are well telegraphed and the arena is wide: anticipate, dodge, then strike back.
- He is frail: open the fight by chaining your spells.
Access
Bitter Lake, North Shore of the Bitter Lake: facing the shrine, go left and follow the shore, on the opposite side from the Apramana Bat; Chen Loong stands in the water at the end of the coast, in front of the Turtle General. Get close to start the fight. Optional, he opens the Zodiac Village quest.
What it gives
- to obtainYaoguai Core × 2
- to obtainRefined Iron Sand
Will: 1,177
The quest earns the Fortifying Medicament formula and the Ruyi Scroll. In Zodiac Village, Xu Dog and Shen Monkey settle in, Chen Loong grows your seeds and Yin Tiger crafts and upgrades armor.
2 achievements are earned in the village: Happy Harvest, by harvesting the seeds given to Chen Loong, and Pound and Perfect, by having Yin Tiger upgrade an armor piece.
