Recommended gear

With what you can have when you first come across it.

Editor's pick The arena is flooded: with the 3 Serpentscale pieces, your actions in water cost much less stamina, the battlerobe slowly restores a little health when yours is low, more so in water, and the Bracers and Gaiters resist Poison. The Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook, the Bronze Buddha Pendant, the Gall Gem and Azure Dust, immune to the Four Banes, round out your defense against its Poison. An easy fight: no need to wait for better gear later in the chapter.

The fight

A single fight, with no pause, in a flooded cave. It reuses the previous frogs' moves: leaps, slaps and backhands, a belly thrust, back kicks. After taking some damage, it spews a poison rain over a large part of the arena. Around half its health, its tongue turns out to be a long hand, Bodhisattva's Left Hand, with its own attacks.

One set: no pause, and its Poison lasts the whole fight.

Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine (soaks also with the Shen Monkey), never during a fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.

What it inflicts

  • Poison: a poison rain over a large part of the arena, which fills your gauge very fast, an arcing spit that leaves pools, poisonous geysers, and a grab with its tongue-hand that poisons you at once.

Attacks to watch

  • It rears back and spews skyward: a poison rain covers a large part of the arena. Back off to a clean area and lure it out of the poison, or take an Antimiasma Powder and keep attacking while it protects you.
  • Its tongue-hand shoots straight at you, then fires magic darts as it retracts: dodge twice.
  • 3 weaving sweeps of the tongue-hand, then it rises and slams down on you.
  • Grab: its slaps almost always start with its right hand, on your left; if it quickly raises its left hand, on your right, while hopping toward you, dodge sideways at once. Otherwise, its tongue-hand carries you up, poisons you and slams you down: almost all your health goes.

What works

  • A Pluck of Many, Immobilize, a quick combo, the Wandering Wight's attack, Cloud Step, then your transformation: it goes down fast. Stagger it often, and cast Immobilize again as soon as it's ready. A Pluck of Many, Immobilize, Wandering Wight, Cloud Step
  • Antimiasma Powder: against its repeated poisoning, it briefly shields you from Poison being reapplied. Antimiasma Powder
  • Rock Solid, in place of Cloud Step: when the tongue-hand slams down after its 3 sweeps, it sends the frog tumbling back. Rock Solid

Strategy

  • Pillar Stance sometimes gets you out of the poison rain, but its attacks will likely knock you down anyway.
  • Thrust Stance to put distance between you and its close-range attacks; deflections, Immobilize, your spirit and your transformation keep it off balance.

Access

Webbed Hollow, Lower Hollow shrine. From the shrine, enter the tunnel on the left: in its left wall, a crack leads to the Cave Depths meditation spot; to its left, follow the corridor to a flooded cave. You can also climb the ledges from the shrine with jumps and aerial heavy attacks. Optional; it is one of the 6 frogs of the "The Clamor of Frogs" achievement.

What it gives

Will: 1,441

Bodhisattva's Left Hand, together with the Right Hand dropped by the boss of the same name, lets you buy the Immortal Blessing Gourd from the Shen Monkey, for 10,800 Will: 8 sips, healing halved, but Attack raised for a short time after each sip.

The Tadpole is used to upgrade the Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang spirit. It is the 4th of the 6 frogs of the "The Clamor of Frogs" achievement, one per chapter.

Updates

Update 1.0.9: fixed the Tadpole and Bodhisattva's Left Hand sometimes failing to drop; affected players found them in their inventory.

In NG+

In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the chapter's quest items must be taken again.
