Editor's pick Rock Solid rather than Cloud Step, from the same spell category: deflecting without rolling limits the risk of falling.

The fight

A single phase, on a windy bridge with no railing: some combo finishers knock you over the edge, and the fall is deadly.

One set: the danger is the fall, not a phase change.

Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.

What it inflicts

  • No status effect reported: sword, claw, and the fall off the bridge.

Attacks to watch

  • High leap and sword plunge, his strongest blow: dodge; pulling the sword out, he often follows with a very wide horizontal slash, the right moment to Immobilize.
  • A rolling leap through you, sword and claw: dodge through him, then step away from the slash that follows.
  • Claw flurry: he rushes in with his claw raised, four quick slashes, then a thrust.

What works

  • Immobilize and Rock Solid: you deflect without rolling, so without risking the fall. Immobilize, Rock Solid
  • A Pluck of Many: his small frame makes him stagger quickly under the clones. A Pluck of Many

Strategy

  • Stay in the middle of the bridge.
  • Stop your light combo before the last hit to keep a safety margin.

Access

Windrest Hamlet, Yellow Wind Formation: cross the bridge after the shrine; he waits in the middle of the next bridge. The area lies behind the Crouching Tiger Temple: beat the Tiger Vanguard first. Optional, but on the way to the cave that leads down to the Stone Vanguard's arena.

What it gives

Will: 777

In the cave past his bridge, a small chest holds the Glazed Reliquary.

In NG+

In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the Vanguards' keys, the Loong Scales and quest items must be taken again.
