The fight

A single phase. He mixes claws and saber from the start and also uses Rock Solid to counter you; he has less health than the temple's tiger.

One set: the Sandgate Pass shrine is right before the arena.

Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.

What it inflicts

  • No status effect reported: physical blows; he is the one who fears Burn.

Attacks to watch

  • A rush followed by a 2- or 4-hit claw combo ending with the saber: dodge sideways on each hit.
  • Aerial leap, faster than the temple tiger's: dodge on the way down.
  • His stone form: your hits bounce off and a heavy attack makes you stagger; stop attacking and immediately dodge his two-hit counter.

What works

  • Red Tides: he fears fire and Burn. Red Tides
  • Immobilize as an opener and to cut off his big saber arc. Immobilize
  • Rock Solid to deflect his blows and open a window. Rock Solid

Strategy

  • Light attacks and sideways dodges; save the heavy attack for his openings.
  • A Pluck of Many to open the fight. A Pluck of Many

Access

Sandgate Pass, Kingdom of Sahali: the arena is right next to the arrival shrine. You must beat the Yellow-Robed Squire to get in, and this "Tiger Vanguard" to move on to Fuban. Optional.

What it gives

Will: 1,014

The Tiger Tally briefly raises Attack when your light attack combo lands.

Updates

No published update changes this boss.

In NG+

In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the Vanguards' keys, the Loong Scales and quest items must be taken again.
