The fight
No second phase described: a slow stone giant whose blows crack the ground and make it glow before exploding.
One set: nothing changes during the fight. In the usual order, the shrine separates his fight from the Stone Vanguard's.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- No status effect reported: the ground glows before exploding, with no confirmed Burn.
Attacks to watch
- Somersault leap toward you, with a large impact area: dodge as he lands.
- A long string of ground punches with shockwaves; the big ones have a delayed aftershock: jump the first, dodge the second.
- Fists and ground turning yellow-orange, then an explosion: wait a second or two, then dodge.
- He falls backward if you stay behind him too long.
What works
- Immobilize, used as soon as it's ready. Immobilize
- Rock Solid or Cloud Step against the shockwaves, and Pillar Stance against some of them. Rock Solid, Cloud Step
- Spirits: the Wandering Wight, or the Spearbone from Rockrest Flat. Wandering Wight, Spearbone
Strategy
- Stay behind him to avoid his fists, but not for too long.
- He resists fire well: Red Tides deals little damage.
Access
The Stone Vanguard's arena, Rockrest Flat: gather the 6 Buddha's Eyeballs, all in Fright Cliff (4 around Squall Hideout, 2 at Rockrest Flat), then deliver them to the big rock with faces at the arena entrance. Optional.

In NG+
In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the Vanguards' keys, the Loong Scales and quest items must be taken again.
