Editor's pick The Wind Tamer is the vessel to bring: it makes him stagger. The Chu-Bai Spear boosts Thrust Stance, recommended against his ranged attacks; Cloud Step takes you back behind him.

The fight

A single phase. He strikes with palms and claws up close and casts magic at range; he often turns intangible: your blows pass through him, and he dodges at least half of your combos, spells included. He also lifts the scripture pages from the floor into a tornado.

One set: nothing changes during the fight.

Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.

What it inflicts

  • No status effect: he deals no elemental damage. His sphere of pages hurts as long as it touches you, with no bane.

Attacks to watch

  • Page tornado: he swirls his arms, the pages on the floor form a tornado that follows you while he casts projectiles. Staff Spin disperses it.
  • 3-hit combo: a jab with his long claws, an intangible backhand, then a blazing palm strike. Don't strike back after the jab: wait for the 3rd hit, dodge it, then punish.
  • Sometimes, when you hit him, he turns intangible, backs off, then strikes with his palm 2 to 4 seconds later: move away rather than chase him.
  • A punch and a kick together, then 2 intangible fist charges that follow your backward dodges.
  • Charged orb, hands joined in front of his chest: cut it off with a heavy attack. His small white orbs are dispersed with Staff Spin or dodged sideways.

What works

  • Wind Tamer: when activated, it staggers nearby enemies and dispels wind effects; against Non-Void, it opens a window for a combo, and update 1.0.13 strengthened its effect against him. Wind Tamer
  • Cloud Step to get behind him and close the distance. Cloud Step
  • Immobilize only while he is solid, for example at the end of a combo: while he is transparent, the spell is wasted. Immobilize
  • Opening burst: Tiger Subduing Pellets, A Pluck of Many, a combo, the Wandering Wight, Cloud Step, then your transformation. Tiger Subduing Pellets, A Pluck of Many, Wandering Wight

Strategy

  • Be patient: he dodges a lot, so strike mostly when he comes out of his intangible mode to attack.
  • Don't waste your Focus or a transformation's finishing blow while he is transparent.
  • After the fight, wait for him to finish speaking to collect his spirit.

Access

New Thunderclap Temple, Temple Entrance shrine: go through the building ahead, climb the left staircase, then take the stairs down on the left to Ma Tianba's side building. Go upstairs by the right staircase, exit at the back, cross the small wooden bridge and climb the stairs to the temple at the top. Optional: boss of the Fox quest.

What it gives

Will: 1,174

Unlocks

Then go back to the corpse at the Forest of Felicity: the Snow Fox Brush becomes a curio that extends the duration of your transformations.

Equipped, the Non-Void spirit restores Stamina when you get hit; its attack is an intangible, invincible backstep.

Updates

Update 1.0.13: the Wind Tamer is more effective against Non-Void. Since that version, he is also part of the "Four Monks" gauntlet of the Challenge mode.

In NG+

In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the chapter's quest items must be taken again.
