Recommended gear

With what you can get before this boss, in your first cycle.

Editor's pick The full Galeguard set: its chest piece is the only armor resisting Shock at this point, and its 4 pieces reward Perfect Dodges, valuable against her charges. The Wind Tamer grounds her, and the Thunderbolt Horn raises your Shock Resistance after each sip. The Rat Sage Staff needs, among other things, 4 Refined Iron Sand: without them, keep your Chapter 2 staff.

The fight

A single fight, with no pause. She flies almost all the time and often pulls her head out of reach; about 30% damage to the head knocks her to the ground. Below half health, she adds ground lightning and a whirlwind. Once beaten, she sinks under the lake, and you wake up a prisoner in a Pagoda Realm cell.

One set: no shrine or pause, and Shock is there from start to finish.

Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.

What it inflicts

  • Shock: lightning-charged claws, tail and breath, ground lightning. While shocked, you can take double damage for much of the fight.

Attacks to watch

  • Mouth grab: she roars, raises her head, then lunges with her mouth open, often as an opener; it can kill you in one hit. Dodge sideways as soon as she lunges.
  • A charge clawing the ground on both sides: lightning erupts at each impact, then a second charge comes from above. Dodge the charge without rolling into the impact spots.
  • A claw planted, then dragged toward you with an electric shockwave, then a big delayed tail slam: dodge the wave sideways, then the tail (or deflect it with Rock Solid if you took it instead of Cloud Step), then hit her tail.
  • Lightning: she roars at the sky and calls down strikes that track you, or a large ring of strikes around her. Keep moving, and stay close to her for the ring.
  • Below half health: she spins while roaring and raises a whirlwind around her. Back off and don't approach.

What works

  • Wind Tamer: it grounds her, but only briefly; keep a charged heavy attack or your spirit ready. Wind Tamer
  • Once she is grounded: A Pluck of Many, a charged heavy attack, Immobilize, then the Wandering Wight's attack. A Pluck of Many, Immobilize, Wandering Wight
  • Shock-Quelling Powder: it removes Shock and briefly raises your Shock Resistance; the chapter's shrines sell it. Shock-Quelling Powder
  • Cloud Step, then a jumping light attack into a heavy attack to reach her head; Rock Solid deflects her claws and tail if you prefer it. Cloud Step, Rock Solid

Strategy

  • Aim for the head, her weak point: the last hit of a light combo or a charged attack almost always staggers her.
  • Pillar Stance: more height and reach for your charged attacks, and it lifts you out of her breath.
  • Don't swing at nothing when she is out of reach: wait for her grounded claw swipes or tail slams to strike back.
  • A full combo on a knockdown can kill her before her second phase even starts.

Access

Snowhill Path, Mirrormere shrine: walk onto the frozen lake to the small temple in the middle; a cutscene starts the fight. Mandatory.

In NG+

In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the chapter's quest items must be taken again.
