Coming back later: everything you can get in Chapter 6 without beating it.
Editor's pick Later in the chapter, the Jingubang, by far the strongest weapon in the game, and the 4 Monkey King pieces, among the most powerful in the game, outclass your gear: worn together, they raise your Critical Hit Chance right after a spell and shorten your spell cooldowns on each critical hit, handy against a boss you bring down with spells.

The 4 Monkey King pieces drop from the Gold Armored Rhino, the Cloudtreading Deer, the Feng-Tail General and the Emerald-Armed Mantis; you then get the Jingubang in the Water Curtain Cave, once you hold the 4 pieces: wear them to be sure to trigger the cutscene.
Your transformation closes the opening sequence; with Umbral Abyss, your health goes back to what it was before when the transformation ends.
The fight
A short fight, with no shrine or break, on the water of the pool. It has few moves: tail strikes, lunges, swipes, leaps and bites, a grab and a roar. Past half health, it dives out of reach, moves under the surface and bursts out to strike, several times; then its huge tails rise from the water, sometimes several at once.
One set: a short fight, with no shrine, break or change of element.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine (soaks also with the Shen Monkey), never during a fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- No status named: the descriptions of its attacks, tail strikes, bites, grab, dives and roar, which stuns you for a few seconds, mention none.
Attacks to watch
- Ambush: as soon as you set foot on the water, it bursts out and attacks very fast; the dodge window is tiny, but the hit deals little damage.
- Grab: it turns its back on you and raises its tail; if the tail hits, it knocks you into the air, then bites you, with no escape. Dodge as soon as you see this cue, preferably sideways.
- Roar: it stamps the ground, then roars, stunning you for a few seconds; dodge when it stamps. You can stay in melee range, except against this roar.
- Tail strikes: after a slight step back, it sweeps all around itself with a full spin, or flips around to whip you; it also lunges, swipes, sidesteps or leaps to bite you. Back off or dodge backward.
- Dives, below half health: bubbles or ripples show where it will burst out, so roll away. After a few dives, its huge tails rise from the water, sometimes several at once: time your dodges to their movement.
What works
- Heavy attacks: it is unsteady on its feet, and a heavy attack knocks it down or stuns it for a moment, giving you longer to hit it without interruption; do it again as soon as it gets up.
- Plantain Fan: as long as its hurricane touches it, it keeps knocking it down; chain attacks and spells in the meantime. Plantain Fan
- Don't hold back your spells: open with A Pluck of Many, the Weaver's Needle if you wear it instead of the Plantain Fan, Immobilize, the Wandering Wight's attack, Cloud Step, then your transformation; this sequence can be enough to finish it. A Pluck of Many, Weaver's Needle, Immobilize, Wandering Wight, Cloud Step
Strategy
- An easy fight: it is frail and has few moves, quickly learned; it waits right below the spot where the cloud cutscene drops you, so you can do it first.
- No rush: it remains available after the end of the story.
Access
Foothills, Verdant Path shrine: after your win over the Supreme Celestial Inspector, you stand at the edge of a cliff; look straight down, there is a pool of water. Fly down to it on the Somersault Cloud, get off the cloud and walk on the water toward the middle: the Jiao-Loong bursts out and attacks. Optional and hidden: invisible from afar, it only appears once you are on the water, and you need the Somersault Cloud, so the Inspector beaten, to reach it.
