Recommended gear
With what you can have when you first come across it.
Editor's pick The Fireproof Mantle handles the Burn: activate it during the 2-wheel phase, and the wheels then knock you back without hurting you. Azure Dust is the recommended transformation, and Ebon Flow works as a finisher if you have beaten Yin Tiger. That duel also unlocks the Iron-Tough Gauntlets and Greaves, crafted with 1 Fine Gold Thread each: the first 2 come from the Cyan Loong. Worn together, they reward every Rock Solid deflection.

The fight
The Treasure Hunter reveals himself: a fast fighter with flaming chakrams, who has little health but moves a lot. Around 60% health, he turns into a wheel of fire that rolls across the arena leaving trails of flame; around 40%, he does it again with 2 wheels. While he is a wheel, you can't hit him.
One set: no shrine or pause, and Burn stays the threat from start to finish.
Spells, transformation and soaks are set at a Keeper's Shrine, never mid-fight: what you bring into a fight stays until the end. One spell per category: Cloud Step and Rock Solid exclude each other, pick one before the fight.
What it inflicts
- Burn: flaming chakrams, a fire beam dealing continuous damage and the wheels' trails of flame. If you catch fire, chain 4 to 5 rolls to put it out.
Attacks to watch
- Opener: a fire beam, then a wave of projectiles. Dodge left or right, then once more, or sprint.
- Fire wheels: he vanishes and his chakrams rush across the arena, 1 then 2. Dodge each pass and don't stay locked on, or the second wheel hits you from behind.
- Parry: if you chain light attacks up close, he blocks, then kicks you. Back off as soon as he blocks.
- A weapon throw as the 4th hit of a combo, and sweeping 3 to 4 hit combos: dodge timing matters more than direction.
What works
- Fireproof Mantle: activate it for the 2-wheel phase; you become immune to Burn, and the wheels knock you back without hurting you. Fireproof Mantle
- Immobilize as soon as he is visible again, then land a combo. Immobilize
- Rock Solid to parry his attacks, then counterattack. Rock Solid
- Azure Dust as your transformation. Azure Dust
Strategy
- Quick attacks, in short bursts: he readily deflects heavy attacks and varied combos, and also parries strings of light attacks up close.
- A Pluck of Many right after dodging his first attack.
- If you prefer Cloud Step to Rock Solid: its decoy draws the wheels.
- When he is knocked down, land your spirit's attack, for example the Wandering Wight.
Access
Valley of Ecstasy, Melon Field: in the big cave near the shrine, walk up to the large Buddha statue to trigger the cutscene and the fight. Optional: he only appears at the end of the Treasure Hunter quest.
What it gives
- to obtainSpell Binder
- to obtainYaoguai Core × 2
- to obtainRefined Iron Sand
Will: 1,181
Once beaten, he flees. The young monk appears, the cave turns into a melon field and you learn Spell Binder: an Attack bonus that depends on your mana, but while it is active, your other spells, vessels, transformations and spirit skills are locked.
The young monk in this scene is the one who will open Mount Mei for you, at The Great Pagoda.
Updates
Update 1.0.13: his invulnerability time was reduced.
In NG+
In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the chapter's quest items must be taken again.
