Recommended gear

From the cutscene that follows Erlang, the Sacred Divinity, you play the giant Stone Monkey, with fixed moves: light attacks to build Focus, heavy attacks that heal you, Rock Solid to deflect. Your items and gear no longer apply. The fight that matters for your gear is Erlang, the Sacred Divinity, at human size, right before: see his page.

The fight

A clash of giants: you are the Stone Monkey against the 4 kings, who share a single health bar and mostly attack in pairs, with team combos. At 60% of their health, you execute a first king in a cutscene, then another roughly every 20%. Erlang Shen follows right after the last king.

Imposed form: you fight as the giant Stone Monkey, with fixed moves.

What it inflicts

  • No status effect reported: descriptions of the fight only mention their combined attacks.

Attacks to watch

  • They mostly attack in pairs and launch team combos at different points of the fight: keep an eye on both active kings.
  • The start is the trickiest part: until the first execution, at 60%, deflect their blows with Rock Solid to build Focus. The fight then gets much easier.
  • No break after the last king: Erlang Shen follows right away. If your health gets low, heal with a heavy attack.

What works

  • Rock Solid: no Mana cost, a short cooldown, and every deflection earns Focus. Use it as soon as a king strikes. Rock Solid
  • Light attacks to fill your Focus, then a heavy attack: the more points you spend on it, the more it heals you.

Strategy

  • Use this fight to learn the Stone Monkey's moves, especially Rock Solid: you need them again against Erlang Shen.
  • Your dodge stays very effective as a giant.
  • Finish your light combos: their finisher earns a lot of Focus.

Access

Mount Mei, Mei-Jian Peak (Chapter 3 secret area). Pagoda Realm, Snow-Veiled Trail shrine: rather than climbing the stairs, take the snowy path down, cross the wooden bridge and follow the path to the big gate of The Great Pagoda. At the top of the steps, Maitreya waits in front of the blank central mural and opens Mount Mei for you. Climb to the Mei-Jian Peak shrine, then take the next flight of stairs. The Four Heavenly Kings are the 2nd of the 3 fights waiting at the top. Optional.

What it gives

No reward of their own: everything drops after Erlang Shen, at the end of the sequence.

Updates

Update 1.0.13: fixed a way to enter this fight in a form other than the Stone Monkey.

In NG+

In NG+, you keep your gear, spells, transformations and spirits, and bosses are tougher. Key items don't carry over: the chapter's quest items must be taken again.
